About Charmed

Charmed is an early-stage startup building AI-powered game development tools. We are helping game studios develop larger, more complex, more fun worlds by making it easier to explore, communicate, and extend their creative visions.

Our first products target specific content production bottlenecks that plague indie studios across level, character, and narrative design. We are investing in R&D to ensure that we are integrating lessons learned in cutting-edge academic research and that our tools exceed the high quality expectations of both professional game designers and gamers. Our users will direct our software the same way they direct their creative teams- except they’ll get to see the results in real-time.

These are early days for Charmed. We’re looking for talented engineers and scientists who are as excited as we are to be at the forefront of the AI-assisted creativity revolution while helping designers make better games!

About the Founding Software Engineer Role

As a software engineer at Charmed, you will be a key part of developing our first products and platform. You will build out the AI workflows that convert user direction into fully integrated games and our game development application.

Everyone on this early team is a builder. You will work across all parts of the stack while learning from others, influencing architecture, working closely with customers, and being part of a close knit, high performing team. This is a great opportunity to learn new technologies and have direct customer impact.

Responsibilities

  • As an early engineering hire, be able to wear many hats and develop across the product life cycle, which includes building, deploying, maintaining/operating, and updating software.
  • Own the development of new customer-facing features and product experiences end-to-end.
  • Optimize applications for speed and scale.
  • Produce the tooling, infrastructure, and application code necessary to productize research in game-related generative AI.
  • Work alongside AI/ML and application engineers to ship an end to end product for our customers

Qualifications

  • Passion for improving the game development creative process using AI/ML.
  • Interest in video games and video game development.
  • Seattle area based or willing to relocate. (We plan to operate using a hybrid model with 3 in-office days weekly.)
  • Has developed game systems and/or game development tools.
  • Proven experience shipping products.
  • Has built and operated a distributed cloud system.
  • Experience with Unity and/or Unreal engines is a plus.
  • Flexibility and a level of comfort with early-stage iterating and moving fast.
  • Bias for action and a drive for results.

Don’t meet every single requirement listed above? That's ok. If you’re excited about this role and our mission, but your experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification listed here, we encourage you to apply anyways. You may be the right candidate for this or other roles within the broader MVL portfolio.

We are an equal opportunity employer and highly value diversity at our company. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.
